QSFP-DD is a new module and cage/connector system similar to current QSFP, but with an additional row of contacts providing for an eight lane electrical interface. It is being developed by the QSFP-DD MSA as a key part of the industry’s effort to enable high-speed solutions.

QSFP-DD is the premier 8-lane data center pluggable module form factor. Systems designed for QSFP-DD modules can be backward compatible with existing QSFP form factors and provide maximum flexibility for end users, network platform designers, and integrators.

• QSFP-DD extends the use and usability of the QSFP family of modules to support higher speeds of 400G, 800G and now 1600G.
• Both 1×1 and 2×1 integrated cage/connectors are defined.
• Cage and module optimizations are defined to support system thermal design and enable cooling of any module in excess of any current module powers.
• The QSFP-DD electrical interfaces are based on eight lanes the operate at 50 Gb/s PAM4 (QSFP-DD), 100 Gb/s PAM4 (QSFP-DD800) and 200 Gb/s PAM4 (QSFP-DD1600).
• QSFP-DD’s small size and flat top design allow unparalleled system design density and design flexibility in order to support a wide range of system configurations.
